mood foods

Trying to set the right mood at your next party, try these foods sorted by their mood.

- Know a group that's feeling stressed out, try serving these: oatmeal, pistachios, milk, avocados and wine
- Planning a study party?  These foods will keep your mind sharp: toast, turkey, coffee and eggs
- Going on a group walk try these energetic foods: water, pineapple and almonds
- Want to celebrate the new year try these happy foods: chocolate, walnuts and spinach
- Even though it may seem contrary avoid these bad mood foods: doughnuts, bacon, large portions, cola and alcohol.  They might be happy in the moment, but will feel bad afterwards.

potato glossary

Yukon Gold - Golden and buttery, an all purpose potato.  Thin skinned, works well in salads, mashed and in gratins.
Red - With pinkish red skin and white flesh.  Good in salads.
Purple Peruvian Fingerling - Originally from Peru.
White Rose - All purpose potato speckled with deep set eyes. Doesn't store well.  Use shortly after purchasing. 
Red Bliss - When young and small, this brick red round potato is waxy and ideal for boiling.  As it matures its texture becomes floury and better for baking.
Purple - Nutty flavored with a jeweled purple tone.  Avoid overcooking to prevent skin from turning gray. 
Finnish Yellow - Hay toned potato which becomes buttery and sweet when cooked. 
French Fingerling - Satin textured with a nutty flavor.  An all purpose potato, yet delicate.  Has a golden interior with pink lines.  Good for roasting.
Round Baby - Tiny, round potato with nearly translucent skin.  Good for boiling.
Ruby Crescent Fingerling - Pink skin reveals a red band that runs the length of its mustard color interior.  Has an earthy flavor.  Good in salads.
Russian Banana Fingerling - Rich flavor.  Slender potato with a slight curve.

vitamin alternatives

If you have picky eaters try these substitutes

For vitamin a, if they won't eat carrots, try sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, or dried apricots.
For vitamin c, if they won't eat broccoli, try tomato sauce, bell peppers, or strawberries.
For potassium, if they won't eat spinach, try potatoes, bananas, or edamame.
For foliate, if they won't eat lettuce, try peas, orange juice, or asparagus.

A Citrus Glossary

Entertain your guests with a palette of shades and tastes. Find the perfect citrus fruit in our list below.

Seville Orange - A sour variety, too acidic to eat on its own, but perfect for a chutney or jam.
Minneola Tangelo - A mandarin grapefruit with deep orange skin, very tart and juicy.
Satsuma Mandarins - Small, slightly flattened, with sweet and tart flavors. Also a symbol of good fortune in China.
Cara Cara Oranges (Red Navels) - Floral and sweet.
Pummelo - The biggest citrus around. Sweet with a thick peel.
Indio Mandarinquat - Hybrid of the mandarin and kumquat. Acidic and seedy.
Oroblanco - Bright yellow and mild.
Moro Blood Oranges - Juicy crimson insides.
Pixie Tangerine - Seedless and low acidity.
Gold Nugget Mandarins - Seedless segments.
